Daily Smoothie (Formula) :: Kid approved

Sometimes making smoothies can be tough as you have different fruits/veggies available on different days.  Making unique and exotic smoothies can be fun, but a lot of times you just want a simple smoothie that tastes good and is good for you.  That's why I created this simple formula (not recipe, so you can adjust as needed) that we follow in our home and add variants depending on what is available.

This is kid approved (our kids drink it almost daily) and has helped keep us from getting sick in the winter, maybe because we also encourage them to eat dirt!

INGREDIENTS

Core "Formula":

  • 1 orange - peeled
  • 1 banana
  • 2 large handful of green leaves - stems removed (Kale,  Swiss Chard, Rainbow Chard or spinach)
  • 1 Tbsp. raw honey
  • 4-6 whole strawberries
  • 1/2 cup fresh berries - (blueberries, raspberries,  or blackberries)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup ice

Options/subs and other goodness:

  • 1/2 cup fresh pineapple chunks - as a sub for orange)
  • 1 inch fresh ginger - peeled
  • 1 cup fresh pressed juice - instead of water (orange, apple cider, etc.)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Pour water or fresh squeezed juice into blender
  2. Add orange (peeled only, keep whole), banana (peeled, duh), green leaves, berries and ginger
  3. Add honey then add ice
  4. Blend according to your blenders smoothie setting instructions (Vitamix is the deal)
  5. Enjoy...and watch your kids take down kale with a smile!

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • To simplify the formula even more, just focus on a green, an orange, a banana, berries and honey - all the rest is gravy
  • We take little to no vitamins in our house...smoothies like this one combined with healthy eating throughout the day can many times be all your body needs to function as it should.
